Sign of the Cross

As an athlete and a coach I was always jealous of Catholic players who made the sign of the cross before they came to bat or before they stepped to the free throw line. I felt that other Christians needed something like that so I developed making the sign of a cross using my thumb and index finger. Extending the other fingers to stand for Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Then tap this cross to your chest over your heart three times a repeating a three word phase that is appropriate for you and the situation. Pointing to the sky, which I see a lot these days, is something that is too showy and you can really only do after you have done something well. It is hard to point at the sky when you have just struck out with the bases loaded to end the game. Using this sign of the cross is more private and you can use three words that help you in a given situation, “All For Christ”, “Jesus Loves Me”, “Christ in Me”, “To Your Glory”, etc. Doing your best is always the goal. As Christians we ask for God's help to do our best at the same time realizing that He is with us weather we succeed of fail.
